Re: Gordon Agnew
This is to say a heartfelt thank you to all the people I have talked with regarding Gordon's death. Your kindness, generosity, and sympathies have and are helping immensely at what is an awful time.
I feel very privileged to know you ladies and gentlemen of the steam movement, and I know that Gordon took great (albeit quiet) pride in being part of your sooty fraternity. Can I emphasis that you are all very much wanted in attendance at the funeral. My feeling is that we should all be proud of this very special man and give him a damned good send off. The funeral arrangements are detailed above. Any input ,thoughts, are welcome and I can be contacted on 07970275440.
Thank you
Teri

A Committee Meeting was held on Saturday 16th April 2005 in Derby. Before the meeting a number of Committee members visited the "Renowned" engineering works of Alton Engineering near Kirk Ireton, to see the first public steaming for many years of Aveling & Porter Road Roller No. 2031, built in 1884. The Roller, owned by a member of the Association, has been at Alton Engineering for a new tender and re-assembly. Those who have been following the current Fred Dibnah series on television, as I'm certain many have, and saw the episode where Fred was at Alton Engineering, will have seen the Roller while in dismantled condition. This is the third oldest Aveling & Porter Roller in the UK, and it is believed it is the oldest in working order. It is hoped to have a photograph of the visit available shortly.
One topic of discussion at the Committee Meeting was Marshall Road Roller 53351. After a discussion a unanimous decision was reached and new statement has been issued. This statement will first be published in the next Issue of Rolling, due out during the third week of May 2005, and then published on this Website.
